The New CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR particle size analyserAnalytik launches new Ultra High Resolution CPS Disc Centrifuge

Cambridge, UK, 24th August 2010: Analytik announce the release of the new ultra high resolution CPS Disc Centrifuge ‘UHR’ – designed as the very highest resolution particle size analyser.

The resolution of the new ‘UHR’ is approximately 2-10 times better than the best available with other particle sizing methods, such as laser diffraction, optical/electrozone counters, and photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS/DLS). Offering the unique ability to resolve very close multi-modal particle distributions and to distinguish extremely small shifts in particle size, the practical range of the analyser is from 2nm to 80 micron (depending on sample density). The CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR separates nano particles by Diffierential Centrifugal Sedimentation (DCS), measuring the particles as they pass a light source detector, providing full characterisation in real time without requiring predictive algorithms.

The CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR sets a new standard in high resolution particle sizing; the innovative re-design of detector beam optics results in a significant resolution improvement for most measurements over earlier versions of the Disc Centrifuge. This improvement in resolving power allows significantly faster analyses of very small diameter samples by trading a slight reduction in resolution for a shorter analysis time. The new UHR Disc Centrifuge utilises a solvent resistant disc made from CR-39 polymer as standard. Resisting attack from virtually all organic and aqueous based solvents, CR-39 polymer is resistant to scratching, does not yellow with age, and has clarity approaching optical glass. Improvements in optical quality eliminate scattering and disc induced detector distortions at the detector, maintaining the highest resolution. Modifications to the internal air flow pattern combined with a new double wall construction and sound insulation reduce the audible noise from the CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR to 1/6 of earlier models.

The CPS Disc Centrifuge is used extensively in the UK and Ireland for a wide range of applications ranging from biological and pharmaceutical – characterisation of viruses, protein clusters and micro encapsulated drugs to chemical – quantum dots and carbon nanotubes analyses and in the manufacture of pigments, paints and inks.

Cambridge-based Analytik are exclusive UK and Ireland distributors of the CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR. To learn more about the ultra-high resolution particle sizer, visit our nanoparticle size analysis page.
