Ultraviolet radiation is a leading source of photobiological hazards. Exposure to visible light, particularly blue light, and infrared radiation can be harmful to human eyes and skin. RISK GROUP ASSESSMENT

Our blue light hazard measurement system provides user support throughout the complete measurement process. It obtains dependable data and presents instant results which declare the risk group for LED and other lighting products: RG 0 – risk free group all the way to RG 3 – high risk group.

Blue light hazard measurement is a intricate metro-logical task and requires specialised instrumentation. Our easy-to-use instruments enable faster product tests and measurements, reducing – or even eradicating – reliance on external photometric laboratory services.

RELIABLE RESULTS

The Spectis 5.0 Touch is a specifically calibrated, high-resolution spectroradiometer. Optical probes for blue light irradiance (Eb) and blue light radiance (Lb) are available to measure skin and eye safety. Factory calibration includes nonlinearity, wavelength, stray light rejection and absolute spectral calibration.

WHAT CAN YOU MEASURE?

Producing human centric lighting involves the assessment of photobiological safety, for which it is necessary to perform spectroradiometric measurements across a broad spectral range. This requires specially calibrated measurement equipment. Irradiance, effective irradiance and effective radiance must all be measured to be able to identify all the hazards to eyes and skin.

Blue Light Hazard Measurement (300 – 700nm)

The GL Spectis 5.0 Touch is specially calibrated for accurate data from an extended visual spectral range of 200 – 1050 nm, where dangerous blue light is present between 300 and 700 nm. The Spectrosoft Analysis software has an in-built Blue Light Hazard Wizard to guide the operator through a step-by-step measurement procedure for identification of risk group classification.

Effective Values

GL Spectrosoft is a dedicated software for GL Spectis Spectrometers that calculates effective irradiance values: EB, EBK, ES, EUVA, EUV, EIR Eskin and effective radiance values such as: LB, LIRA, and LVISIRA. It calculates and presents data in easy-to-ready charts and tables as well as generating RTF reports. Options for calculations concerning photobiological safety are available under the LAB license or Spectrosoft PRO licence with the photobiological safety add-on.

Radiance and Irradiance

For irradiance measurements we offer the Opti Probe 5.1.50. When using this probe in connection with the spectroradiometer, the effective quantities are calculated from irradiance values. This optical probe uses a silica glass diffuser and high-quality quartz glass fibre optics for high precision and transmission properties.

For radiance measurements we recommend the GL Radiance Telescope, which is an optical probe conforming to international standards with regard to the steradian/solid angle resolution and extended spectral range transmittance.
