ATR-L Digital Multiple Wavelength Refractometer

The world’s first digital, critical-angle, multi-wavelength refractometer for dispersion measurements. This instrument enables full optical characterisation of measured liquids and certain solids.

Key Features:

  • Measures refractive index at 7 discrete wavelengths and interpolates
    the entire spectral range to produce an optical dispersion curve
  • Provides a unique fingerprint profile of the sample
  • Possible to implement any combination of customer-specified wavelengths
    and carry out quasi-spectral measurements in a short time frame
  • A sample volume of 0.3ml is sufficient for measuring
  • Equipped with a Peltier thermostat (no external water bath / thermostat necessary)

Applications

  • R&D: the ATR-L can be used inSchmidt+Haensch ATR-L medical development (plastic lenses, proteins, etc) and in optical communication technology (polymer materials, special optical liquids, glasses and glues). In the petrochemical industry, the ATR-L can perform scientific research services and standard ASTM measurements.
  • Quality control: the measurement principle of the ATR-L relies on a complete refractive index measurement at visible wavelengths, which is also sensitive to absorption, leading to a full optical characterisation of the measured substance. For example measuring a fruit juice will not only determine the sugar content but also provide valuable information on colour and turbidity
  • Product characterisation and identification: the measuring principle of the ATR-L gives unique fingerprint-like data for a particular product. Using this fingerprinting characterisation, high quality products like wine, perfumes, alcoholic beverages etc. can be easily identified along with possible forgeries.
